Tell us what happened

Include the app version, device model, operating-system version, steps you tried and the error message. A screenshot with private content removed can help. Do not include API keys, passwords or your complete private library.

Start with one thought

Open Capture, choose Type, write a thought and save it. Find it in Library or use local search. Capture, browsing and local search work without an AI API key.

Apple Notes and quick capture

Bring selected content from Apple Notes through sharing or a Shortcut. Thought Box does not automatically read or continuously sync your entire Apple Notes library.

For Action button or Back Tap, first create a Shortcut using the app's Quick Capture action, then assign it in iOS Settings. Interactive capture snippets require iOS 26 or later. Hardware and system support vary. If a sharing extension is missing, look under More in the source app's share sheet.

AI connections and billing

In Settings, choose the provider, service region and model, add the matching API key and test the connection. Check connectivity, model access and API credit if a request fails. A consumer chat subscription may not include API usage. The chosen provider sets its API charges and data policies.

AI requests can send record text and conversation context to the provider. Read the privacy policy before enabling them. To stay with local features, leave keys unset or remove saved keys. Choose On-Device Voice if you do not want text sent for cloud speech.

Voice, camera and photos

Check the relevant permissions in system settings. Voice transcription needs an on-device speech model supported by your device and language; required model assets may need a download. An unsupported configuration may record audio without completing transcription. Test the camera on the physical device.

iCloud and your records

Check that iCloud Drive is enabled and has available storage, then check network access and the app's sync status. Keep the original files while troubleshooting. Do not delete a local copy until you have confirmed that the records you need are safely available elsewhere.

The app can export a readable library folder. Keep exports somewhere you control; they may contain original files and private notes. Contact support before attempting destructive recovery steps.
